NEW ADVERT

May 26th, 2008

Check out the new Props ad just finished by Ben K, Andy Merrall, and Shad for issue #69. NW coming up!
Ian Munro also did a spot check for props at the giant private park in SoCal, so watch for that soon.
In other Ian news, he's fixed his Sony vx and is startin to film for the solid vid and his own video "lesson in respect".
He should also have a gnar photo in the next ride mag (robbo gap anyone?). Ian also got a stony garden, hooked his 6th dose of hot black molasses, and advises every human to watch Zeitgeist.
Ians a true nihilist!

Ben Kellgren sent over some party snaps from a little shindig at his place where he lives with shad and spencer mcCabe.
Dean Dickenson brought out some pizza and pbr to thank all the dudes that helped him up from a bad fall at burnside where he smashed his face (check the GOODS blog for some pics of that). The party turned into a kicker ramp session til dark. awesome!

Ben will be at Woodward West this summer so be sure to challenge him to a tandem one-legged bmx race when you see him.

The Force Is Strong In This One

Jake Honesto checked in to say he's done with school for a month and will be partying and riidng every kind of bike he can get my hands on. He also noted that he blacked out the other night in dolores park with a group of people that has the same ratio of tatoos per person as the inmates at san quentin. Watch out for Jake sightings this summer.

Andy Fitzgerrell
also sent over some pictures of John Ivers taken somewhere in the milehigh state. Johns been a longtime supporter and has been killing it all over the country. Last time i saw him, I think he was living in a trailer near Ashland, OR. Kid gets around more than Jack Kerouac.

And finally, a new Solid site is in the works, so if you have any suggestions on layout or content you'd like to see, holla at us!

This email was sitting in my inbox entitled "Solid supporter #1".
Thats a fairly bold statement, but whatever the case, spinal tap and huge fakies are definitely sick.

Heres a few good shots from the Sacto park that I've been sitting on for too long. The first few are Cory Bugenig and his AA. The pipe shots are jrT getting his slash on.

In news, Sequoyah is back in BC from his African Safari extravaganza and brent everitt has health insurance for what I think may be the first time ever. This may not mean much to most, but when you're as far in the game as brent, a little cushin goes a long way during those heavy sessions.

And finally, I don't recommend blogs often (except in the case of horsebite), but I recently came along SPRFLS and felt compelled to share. Its good to see someone calling out BMX companies for the gimmicky products they're producing. Expect to see Solids rendition of the skatebike on there soon.
We're just keeping with the times.

Volcano

Hawaii is pretty well known for its volcanic activity, but what I didn't know is that just a mere few miles away from active eruptions is a wooden monstrosity of a skatepark. Just check the pics. Its covered, free, and usually empty. Treats!
The only catch is you have to hit it when the Vog (volcano exhaust) isn't blowing north.

Ten Million Dollar Bananas

April 18th, 2008

vicfalls.jpg
So I just got back from two months in Africa, one week of which was spent in Zimbabwe where a banana costs 10,000,000 Zim dollars. In other words their money is worth less than toilet paper. The people there live under the corrupt rule of Robert Mugabe and suffer the consequences of international sanctions against their country. Yet in spite of their circumstances, the people of Zimbabwe are some of the most friendly and intelligent that I have ever met. Above is a shot of Victoria falls, one of the 7 natural wonders of the world, for good reason.

Team Ha’ole

April 7th, 2008

Team Ha'ole from Sean Parker on Vimeo.

The term Haole (pronounced how-lee) is used a lot on the islands to describe anyone other than Hawaiian discent. More often its used in a derogatory manner like "f-ing haole, get out of my coco tree!". Thus we chose it as our "team" name for the Streets of Madness contest since we all came over from the mainland. Anyways, heres our team video as edited by Sparker displaying the more serious side of bmx on the islands.

Solid in Africa?

March 21st, 2008

namib3 (Medium).JPG

Sequoyah just checked in and is working on week six of his African adventure. He's currently in an isolated town on the coast of Namibia where everyone speaks German (is that strange for Africa?).

Heres a few photos he snapped in the last month and a good video that the Songo Project put together. Sequoyah was in Kayamandi working with Songo and other projects within the community when he heard about a bmx track that needed support so he did a demo for a few hundred kids.
Just check how excited these kids are for 360 flyouts!

If this doesn't motivate you to explore the world than nothing will.

Emilie- Coco tree fakie

Hawaii, bmx, and hooters. Not much more needs to be said, but for amusement purposes...

Duane of Bike Factory pulled off a great contest with a few dozen contestants and a rippin video premier at hooters. Parker and The Bottle made it out from San Francisco for the event and to return some cursed sand back to the island as well as touch up on front wheel hang tens?
Thanks again to Duane for pulling it all together and Emilie for giving us the deluxe tour of the island.

Keep an eye out for the SOM3 video when it comes out in the coming months.
Shoots!

The thing I didn't anticipate was the way that the Canucks would react to the much cheaper liquor prices in The States......
