Eff Cancer!
Saturday was the jam for Tag at East Shore Skatepark in Ithaca Ny. It was an amazing Turnout with riders and friends from as far away as the United Kingdom, and Newark Valley. Friends from California, Pennsylvania, Minnesota, Ohio, Jersey and beyond, all together to show support for our friend Mike Tag.
It was supposed to be a skatepark jam, but in true FBM fashion it ended up more like a scene from heavy metal parking lot, with Kelly Baker setting up makeshift obstacles, with weirdest best trick contests and more. The spirit of BMX was alive on saturday, we raised alot of money for the benefit, and people were stoked. The raffle was a huge success, thanks to these companies and more for donations-

The Legend of Ithaca Ny
Ithaca Ny is a small city in upstate Ny, famous for Waterfalls, Gorges, Shortstop Sandwiches, cheap beers at the Chanticleer, and being the Birthplace of FBM!
Here are some random Ithaca facts…
-Ithaca takes its name from the Greek island of Ithaca in Homer’s Odyssey.
Cayuga Lake is named after the Cayuga Indian Nation, one of the six nations of the Iroquois Confederacy.
-The city’s modern history began in the late 18th Century when Congress awarded Revolutionary War soldiers land grants (in lieu of combat pay) to settle the area. Local deeds are still based on the original “Military Tract,” designated in 1790.
-As a frontier town with questionable morals, Ithaca was briefly known as Sodom.
-Famous Ithacans include: “Roots” author Alex Haley, astronomer Carl Sagan, television writer Rod Serling, and former World Bank president Paul Wolfowitz.
-An intrepid boater can cast off from Ithaca and cruise the storied Erie Canal system all the way to NYC and the Atlantic Ocean. Westbound, the canal leads boaters into the Great Lakes, the Mississippi and ultimately to the Gulf of Mexico.
-The Moosewood Restaurant, famous for its award-winning vegetarian cookbooks, has been an Ithaca landmark since 1973.
-Ithaca was a film capital from 1913-1920 with numerous silent films produced at Wharton Studios in Stewart Park.
-Wizard of Oz author L. Frank Baum was a frequent visitor to Ithaca while his wife attended Cornell. At the time, yellow bricks paved local roads.
-Ithaca has its own currency, “Ithaca Hours.” This alternative legal tender is widely used in town and has been featured in over 400 media outlets nationally and abroad.
-The Ithaca Gun Company, whose namesake smokestack remains a local landmark, was established in 1880 and produced some of the world’s finest shotguns.
-The Ice Cream Sundae-Created by a local fountain owner Chester Platt and Unitarian reverend John Scott on April 3, 1892.
-Chicken Nuggets-Invented by Cornell food scientist Bob Baker in the 1950s.
-You can Launch a car going down Buffalo Street at the stewart ave. intersection
Ithaca is also the hometown for Such Legendary BMX characters as Kelly and Kim Baker, Mark “Toast” Johnson, Jeremy “Magilla” Reiss, Myself (steve crandall), Mike Erb, , Jesse “Fisher” Bower, Andrew Forgash, a new crop of screwballs, like Alex Capalongo and Spencer Bayles, and of course The One and Only Mike Tagliavento, who we are partying with this weekend.

Mike Tag Update!
It’s really difficult to see one of your best friends that you grew up with, as bald as a cueball, shooting pool, while describing the struggle of going through chemo therapy, talking about trying to get medicaid, and joking about drinking pedialyte at the bar. It’s a truly conflicting sad and proud scenario. It’s sad to to see Mike tag sick, i get all choked up when he’s not looking, But I am proud of him, his strength, endurance, and the fact that he is fighting the good fight even if its as gnarly as it is. Equally uplifting is how a community has gotten behind Mike in this tough time, the people of Ithaca New York, and beyond in a world of BMXer’s who have shown a resounding support for an icon.
This week was a local Music show, to benefit Mike, and help keep his spirits up. Tons of great Bands, including the Mill Bastards doing a heavy Clash Cover, and New England Legend,Mark Choquettes band- The Ones, drove who all the way down from providence, so the singer could run off stage and jump in the dirty brackish water outside of Castaways, where boats typically dock up. It was rad, people out for a good cause. It Made me really happy!
Anyhow… I believe Mike will make a full recovery, but we still need to be behind Mike 110%.
Don’t forget to donate to the Mike Tag Benefit fund, and Be sure to get back to Ithaca Next weekend, where we will be raffling off Several Bikes, and thousands of dollars in BMX parts, and accessories, Art and more! The parking Lot at East Shore is going to be peppered with BMX legends from all over the world!

Big Dave 4130
I have no words to summarize the past decade of awesomeness Dave Harrison has brought to FBM, and we can’t thank him enough for all his hard work, passion, drive, and talent that has helped make FBM what it is today, but in a nutshell, and on behalf of everyone at FBM, and all of our supporters, THANKS for everything Dave!
Its a bit sad to see Dave go, but we are also excited for him, as he opens up the next chapter in his life.
You can read more detail about what’s next over on ESPN, or you can see some of Dave’s influence and involvement in the story of FBM below.
We will still continue to make kick ass bikes, and bring the fun to BMX, in the spirit of FBM, so hit some curb cuts, grab a slice of pizza, hi five your buddies, and get stoked!
